Through the intersection of arts education and youth development practices, civic engagement strategies and high quality artistic presentation, Youth Speaks creates safe spaces that challenge young people to find, develop, publicly present, and apply their voices as creators of societal change. All year long, Youth Speaks offers writing workshops, performance events and youth development programs for over 30,000 teens in the Bay Area. This includes FREE weekly after-school writing workshops in San Francisco and Berkeley, "SLAM Clubs" at local high schools such as Mission, John O'Connell, Oakland Tech, and Leadership Public Academy, and bi-monthly Under 21 Open Mic nights held in San Francisco and downtown Oakland. No need to sign up for any of these activities—just show up! We also provide School-based Residencies for the duration of the school year as well as single-day School Visits to high schools throughout the Bay. We present a wide variety of Slam performance events and also facilitate several dynamic digital campaigns. Visit our website at www.youthspeaks.org to learn more and get involved!
