Program Description:
The Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club K-8 Afterschool Program operates M-F, 2-7pm. Effective youth development programs focus on 4 outcome areas: Academic Success, Good Character & Community Engagement, Healthy Lifestyles, and Job Readiness with Earning Potential. The Club serves primarily African-American, Samoan and multi-ethnic youth ages 6-13 who are extremely impoverished and live in the surrounding public housing. There is a high level of community violence and stresses at home that youth face on a daily basis, making our Behavioral Health Services and collaboration with SFPD (we have a fixed-post SFPD officer at the Club) a critically important part of our youth development work.
