Program Description: 

LYRIC's (Lavendar Youth Recreation and Information Center) LGBTQQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Questioning) and Ally Youth Community Building Program provides project-based learning opportunities for low-income LGBTQQ youth of color ages 13 to 17 (Grades 8 to 12). Eligible applicants express interest in building community with their peers and learning about culture, identity, diversity, and social justice. Over a period of 8-10 weeks participants will explore issues impacting their community and produce a product or event which demonstrates what they have learned. Past projects have included youth-produced history tours, intergenerational work with transgender youth and elders, and environmental justice work.
