To ensure that ALL girls have the opportunity to participate in programs, GirlVentures awards financial aid to two-thirds of all participants. Full and partial awards available. Financial Aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. To be considered for their first round of financial aid, please return your application by Feb 7, 2015.

Program Description: 

The mission of GirlVentures (formerly The Bay Area Girls Center) is to provide meaningful experiences for adolescent girls who are at risk of losing their self-esteem and self-confidence during a critical period in their lives.

Classes: They offer classes in rock climbing (Girlz Climb On), sea kayaking, high and low challenge courses, hiking and orienteering, service learning, Natural History/Place Based Ecology, overnight camping, outdoor cuisine, and backpacking. These programs serve to continue activities from the summer sleepaway camps. Juniors and seniors can participate in leadership classes, be assistant instructors, participate in internship programs, and get placement in outdoor programs such as Outward Bound West and the Yosemite National Institute. Fees range from $275–$475 per session plus registration fees. Scholarships are available.

Camps: Project Courage takes girls on a wilderness experience for 14 days in which they'll backpack, rock climb, sea kayak, do creative activities, and more.

Location: Tomales Bay and Point Reyes National Seashore
Ages: entering grades 7 and 8
Cost: $2,450 per two-week session plus a $50 registration fee.

Redwood Adventure is a new program for beginner GirlVentures participants. Activities include games, rock-climbing, orienteering, solving team initiatives and more. This camp ends with an overnight expedition.

- Redwood Adventure Rock: July 19–July 26
- Redwood Adventure Coast: June 26–July 2
Ages: entering grades 6 and 7
Cost: $1,300 per session plus a $50 registration fee

Transitions is a sleepaway camp for girls entering high school. The camp is much like Project Courage but girls will have an opportunity to participate in trust/team building games, problem solving, and discussions on issues that are important to them.

Ages: entering grade 9
Cost: $2,600 per session plus a $50 registration fee

On The Rise is offered to GirlVentures alumnae who have participated in Project Courage and/or Transitions. This is the "rite of passage" into becoming a member of the Girls Advisory Board or to become assistant instructors. Participants must have previously completed a multi-day GirlVentures course.

Location: Inyo National Forest
Ages: entering grade 10–11
Cost: $1,800 per 11-day session plus a registration fee. Full and partial scholarships are available for all camps. Call (415) 864-0780 for more information.

Afterschool:
Girlz
Climb On is a unique afterschool program that combines an interest in rock climbing with a mentorship program. Available in both Oakland and San Francisco, the weekly sessions focus on developing technical climbing skills while learning about inner strength, building relationships, trust, leadership, self-expression, group dynamics, and conflict resolution.
