Program Description:

Communities in Harmony Advocating for Learning and Kids (CHALK) is an SF project providing a range of youth services with a specific focus on transformative youth development and employment. CHALK employs and provides leadership opportunities to youth within the Youth Funding Youth Ideas Program (YFYI). Fifteen youth, aged 14–18, employed as YFYI program officers or youth evaluators work with and provide assistance to youth ages 13–17 who are applying for a grant from YFYI or already funded by YFYI. YFYI youth staff make grant decisions, funding youth up to $10,000 per grant. YFYI’s mission is to foster young San Franciscans with the opportunity to expand their leadership goals by funding their project ideas. YFYI reaches youth in schools, community-based organizations, and the streets. CHALK targets youth with high-risk characteristics when employing, and places youth on the front lines as service providers. Through a free phone line called Youthline (YL), YL Listeners supply peers with peer support and information about youth services. YL Community Outreach Workers offer face-to-face assistance to youth in SF neighborhoods, community-based organizations, and schools, speaking to peers about youth issues and providing referrals to youth services. YL Online Specialists are trained in web design to build and maintain CHALK and Youthline websites, including an online database of thousands of SF youth services. Youth Consultants provide youth-led consultation and training to young people and adult allies on a variety of topics that will help increase opportunities for youth with high-risk characteristics. The Youthline phone line is open every day of the year. It provides resources, support, and information to youth and their allies.Visit these websites for more information:
