A Home Away from Homelessness, a program of Bay Area Community Resources, believes that every child deserves the opportunity to experience safe and supportive spaces that respect and foster his or her strengths, creativity and abilities. The Home Away School House program serves middle school youth, grades 5-8, all of whom attend school in San Francisco. Up to 15 youth are part of the school house each year with an average daily attendance between 10 and 12. All are classified as homeless as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act and priority is given to those currently without homes. The School House runs from 2:30 to 7:30 Monday through Thursday with an afternoon session many Fridays as well.
