Program Description:
Give your child a Mandarin-immersion and Chinese art experience without leaving the country. Join our Mandarin and Art Summer Camp, It is conveniently located in San Francisco.
AAS Mandarin and Art Summer Camp is designed for children entering Kindergarten through the 5th grade. This program will give them a unique opportunity to learn and improve their language skills in Mandarin while deepening their knowledge of Chinese culture and art through age-appropriate play-based classes and activities.
In summer 2015, Asian Arts Studio celebrates its sixth year of partnership with the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University. The Mandarin teachers from the institute will join our dynamic summer camp staff and use their expertise to teach Mandarin character reading and writing. Throughout the nine weeks, guests with special skills and award-winning young artists will be invited to enhance the camp experience and inspire our students.

The camp consists of 9 one-week sessions that begin June 1 and end July 31. The basic program is from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm with an extended-care option that runs from 7:30 to 8:30 in the morning and from 3:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon.  The students participate in classes conducted in Mandarin.  They include such culturally rich activities as drawing, Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, Chinese folk songs, poetry, dance, theater activities and more.  Field trips will be arranged for landscape drawing during the camp. The field trips will go mostly to Stern Grove Playground, the Lowell High School campus, and the northern end of Lake Merced (near Lakeshore Elementary) for observing and drawing nature. All sessions, including the extended care, will include enrichment activities conducted in Mandarin.

The Mandarin and Art Summer Camp is a small camp with a maximum of 20 students.  Each student will receive personalized instruction and care.  Students will receive Mandarin instruction according to their fluency.  The program also features a leadership program for the older students with advanced skills in art or Mandarin. The camp’s goal is to teach the children Mandarin communication skills while they are having fun with a variety of hands-on activities and games.

Our Mandarin instruction and curriculum are supported by the Confucius Institute at SFSU.
