Program Description:

Asian Arts School will celebrate its eighth year as a summer camp and its first year as a partner with Panda Kungfu Center on Judah St. Together we are excited to announce the 2016 Art and Kung Fu Summer Camp. It is designed for students from five to ten years of age.Our summer camp students will have very full days.  They will draw and paint.  They will also learn to read and write Chinese.  Mandarin songs and folk dances will be introduced and taught in our program.  Then, during our late afternoon sessions, students will practice Kung Fu with martial arts master Leo Wang of Panda Kungfu on Judah Street.Kung Fu will provide a rich and exciting addition to the mix of activities that we have traditionally offered in our summer day camp. The camp’s mission is to teach the students a well-rounded set of skills that come out of ancient traditions but are still respected in the modern world.  Through these varied exercises we harmonize body and mind through work and play. Instruction will be offered in English and in Mandarin with allowances for the varied fluency of the students.  Students are not required to know Mandarin, but they should be enthusiastic about studying it.The principal daily session is from 8:30 to till 3:00pm.  The activities include:- Drawing;- Painting (watercolor or Chinese brush painting);- Chinese calligraphy;- Reading, writing and speaking Mandarin;- Poetry and song in Mandarin;- Drama activities; and- Group dancingIn our past summer camps the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University has sent us teachers to supplement and enhance our Mandarin instruction.  We look forward to their participation next summer as well. For some years we have also enjoyed the support of Advocates for Chinese Education (ACE).  We are grateful to receive their continued collaboration and encouragement. We will also, as in past years, invite guest teachers and artists with special skills and distinction to enrich the camp experience and inspire our campers.During any one-week session there will be at least one field trip that includes landscape drawing.  Most field trips will be to Parkside Square & Bob Chemey Field at 28th Avenue and Vicente Street or the Golden Gate Park.At 3:00pm students will be transported in cars to Panda Kungfu Center at 2545 Judah Street for their 3-to-6pm session.  At Panda Kungfu students will receive expert instruction from Master Leo Wang.  Qi Qi Lao Shi will be their Mandarin teacher. Parents will pick up their students at this location.Art and Kung Fu Summer Camp will be a small camp with a maximum of 20 students.  This will make it possible for each student to receive a very personal level of attention.Enroll your child before our camp fills up.  If you have questions, call us on weekdays between 9am and 2pm at(415) 297-3072.  You may also write to us at linwei@asianartsschool.com .
