Program Description:

A collaboration between the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC), the After School Learning Center is a free program for A.P. Giannini Middle School students. There are three options, two of which take place at A.P. Giannini School and another off-site, at the West Sunset Recreation Center.

The program focuses on academic support and enrichment through hands-on, experiential learning, has been recognized as a model for other afterschool programs throughout the nation.

Students can get homework assistance, and join project-based clubs, allowing participants to pursue their interests while also meeting school day academic standards. Project-based learning clubs include the DJ Club (a part of SNBC’s Urban Music Program), MOUSE Squad, Flash Animation, sports, and others.

Every school with an ExCEL program partners with a nonprofit community based organization to run activities and build bridges to the neighborhood.
