Organization Description:

Stern Grove Festival’s admission-free education programs provide valuable arts learning opportunities to thousands of Bay Area children and families every summer. Designed to offer direct engagement and participation with the art forms presented onstage, the programs help deepen understanding of the arts presented, build the next generation of artists and audiences, and offer multigenerational activities for Bay Area families. Programs include:Kids Days - interactive hands-on arts workshops serving Bay Area youth, ages 4-13. The Kids Day Workshops give youth history, context, and interactive skill building in the art forms being presented on our stage.  Stern Grove Festival partners with local teaching artists representing diverse art forms to present these programs.  In the 2015 season the Festival partnered with Salsamania, Halau ‘o Keikiali’i, and the San Francisco Ballet.Kids Camps - three-day youth arts camp programs with in-depth focus on environmental arts. This program was designed to allow youth to build sequentially on their investigation and participation in the art form. Participants explore the distinctive ecosystem of Sigmund Stern Grove, learning about the plants and animals that inhabit the unique natural space.  They then work in groups and independently to create their own environmental arts projects.  Instructors include teaching artists, a naturalist who focuses on the Sigmund Stern Grove ecosystem, and other experts.KidStage - Featuring hands-on arts activities for children of all ages and their families, KidStage takes place on concert Sundays prior to the mainstage performance. Several drop-in discovery stations explore nature and art themes with hands-on activities such as: making sculpture out of objects found at the Grove, an Instrument Exploration Station, and multi-ethnic dance workshops inspired by place (i.e. Hula, Afro-Caribbean, Hip-Hop). KidStage is a tremendous San Francisco family resource, and makes a day at the Festival accessible and fun for all.For more information about Stern Grove Festival's education programs, or to register for Kids Days and Kids Camps, please visit the Festival website at http://www.sterngrove.org/home/education/
