A Fourth of July Extravaganza at Shoreline Amphitheater, Deck the Hall and Peter and the Wolf performances during the holidays, and a concert for the Stern Grove Festival are among the gifts that the beloved San Francisco Symphony (SFS) gives to the Bay Area every year. With the leadership of director and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, a.k.a. MTT, the San Francisco Symphony brings classical and contemporary music of the world to enrich our community throughout the year. Tickets to regular concerts run from $10–$125.SFS offers free educational workshops and chamber music concerts at community venues such as Dolores Park, the Financial DistrictGolden Gate Park, Presidio National Park, and Yerba Buena Gardens.Youth and family programs include:
- Music for Families: Bay Area families can enjoy concerts at Davies Symphony Hall and the Flint Center in Cupertino. Weekend matinee performances are designed to introduce families to live symphony concerts.
- Concerts for Kids: School groups attend special weekday concert performances at Davies Symphony Hall.
- Adventures in Music: SFS works with SFUSD to enrich and enhance music programs at local schools.
- Instrument Training and Support Program: Middle and high school instrumental musicians are coached by SFS professionals.
- Youth Orchestra: Tuition-free training for young musicians at the pre-professional level.
- Bass Training Program: provides instruction to middle school and high school bassists throughout the year; addresses the scarcity of student bassists in the Bay Area.Kids should check out SFSKids.com, the children’s website that was designed to be educational and fun!
