Bring your children who love books to this terrific place where they will learn about the craft of bookmaking. SFCB opens their doors to field trip groups and families all year round. Field trips to SFCB include a walk through their letterpress studio, a talk about the history of printing, a walk through the bindery, and a hands-on activity in which kids go through the process of creating a book.Parents are welcome to enroll in bookmaking workshops for teachers. Learn how to make books and bring home projects and easy-to-follow instructions so that you can teach your kids how to make books, too.Teen Workshops:The San Francisco Center for the Book holds letterpress workshops for high-school students.  Learn the basics of letterpress, culminating with the production of a collective book of students' original prose and poetry.Participating high schoolers will learn how to read a pica ruler, set type, design pages, mix ink, do makeready, pull proofs, make corrections manage kiss-off and paper grain, distribute type and spacing, cut and wax thread, and sew a pamphlet-stitch book.  Students will work alone or in teams of two on the cover, colophon, text, title page, and half title page.  Each student will also design and print his or her own work on one of the pages in the book.  Finally, the class will bind the prints in a simple single signature.
