It's always sunny in Potrero Hill! When the wind and fog get you down, head to Jackson Playground for some sun. There are two separate playgrounds; one for the younger kids and one for the older kids, with each section having a large variety of developmentally appropriate and safe play equipment. A couple of picnic tables dot the park, and you can watch the softball teams battle it out at both of the full-sized baseball diamonds. Tennis and basketball courts abut the playground, and are good places for new bicyclists to practice or anyone to play with balls. The park is located across the street from Live Oak School (this is their "official" playground so there are lots of older kids on school days) and down the block from the Anchor Steam Brewery...so that smell you smell is hops! The recreation center is actively used by Potrero Hill families. The space is used for lots of birthday parties and other celebrations. The annual Potrero Hill Halloween parade (300+ families) along 18th Street starts here. They have a School Year Latchkey program for kids ages 5 to 13, art classes, computers, youth hobbies (Aquarium Fun), youth karate, tennis, capoeira lessons, and a children's community garden. The recreation center collects outdoor toys (in good condition) from the neighbors so there are a lot to go around.
Afterschool: The program includes homework assistance, literacy, sports, group games, arts and culture, community exploration, and seasonal special events. Start times may vary based on school release time. Families can register for classes and other programs at SFRecOnline. You can search for programs by activity or by location.
