Bayview Hunters Point's hidden gem, the EcoCenter at Heron's Head Park, is an environmental justice education center that offers hands-on programs focusing on ecology, society, and well-being. Youth interns act as resident naturalists and docents who talk about clean air and water, safe energy, healthy food, non-toxic homes and schools, open space restoration, and equitable education and employment.Vist the center with your kids and explore the City's first "100% off the grid" building, modeling solar power and alternative wastewater technologies. The center is a wealth of information on renewable energy, pollution and greenhouse gas reduction, wastewater treatment, “green” building materials, and the green economy. The park is surrounded by natural wetlands that provide a home to migrating birds. Depending on the season you’ll see egrets, herons, pelicans, and Canada geese. A small beach and a group picnic area make this a good park for school field trips, too.
