Ice-skating is not just a winter sport. Belmont Iceland is open year-round for your skating enjoyment. They offer recreational skating to the community as well as hockey and figure skating programs taught by a professional coaching staff. Check their website for hours of open skate ("public sessions"), hockey, and instructional lessons.
Classes: Iceland is a member of the Ice Skating Institute and offers classes for all ages and levels of ice skating. Iceland offers freestyle sessions, ice hockey programs, Bay Skates shows, recitals, skating competitions, synchronized team skating, modern dance, ballet, and summer classes. Six-week classes are available for skaters of all ages and abilities. Skaters are assigned according to the appropriate age and level. If the schedule does not fit your needs, Iceland can create a class during public sessions if there are at least five students interested. Skate rentals are included in all group lesson packages. Iceland also offers a seven-week ice hockey class in which kids learn basic skills such as glides, stops, and turns. Students get free skate rentals and skate for free during public sessions on days they go to class. Fees for classes run from $40 to $95. Call (650) 592-0533 for more information.
Camps: Camp Freeze is a week-long, half-day skating camp in which participants learn to skate, play fun games on the ice, get creative with ice painting, have their picture taken on the Zamboni ice resurfacer, play in the snow, and perform a group musical skating program at the end of the week. Advanced Camp Freeze caters to experienced skaters ("Gamma level" and above). Campers enhance basic skills, do pilates, ballet, strength and conditioning exercises, and participate in different skating clinics.
