Description

St. Ignatius College Preparatory (SI) is a co-ed Catholic high school in the Sunset. It has a large campus complete with two gyms, two tennis courts, a track and field oval with a large field for soccer, lacrosse, football, and field hockey, and a large indoor swimming pool.

The Herbst Natatorium, SI's indoor swimming pool, is open for recreational swimming. Kids younger than 8 years old who do not pass the swim test must be accompanied in the pool by a parent. Recreational swim hours are Sat. 3pm–4:30pm and Sun. 1pm–3pm. The cost is $4 per visit and $45–$54 for 15 visits.

Classes:
SI offers two programs for the community:

Magis : open to SI and non-SI students from lower-income families and first-generation college-bound students. The program offers academic enrichment classes, mentoring, high school and college admissions counseling, and homework help.

Aquatics: The pool has terrific swimming lessons that run for six-week, 30-minute sessions in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. Kids must be at least 6 years old to attend. The cost is $80 per session.

Private and semi-private lessons are available Sat. 3pm–6pm and Sun. 1pm–5pm. Kids younger than 6 can participate but must be potty trained. Private lessons are $25 per half-hour. Semi-private lessons for two people are $35 per half-hour.

They also host the Hammerhead Youth Swim Club (Fog City Hammerheads) for kids ages 8 to 18 years old who want to participate in competitive swimming.

Camps:
Summer academic programs at SI are open to non-SI students entering grades 7–9. Students entering grade 9 prepare for high school by taking math, English, speech and computers (optional). Students entering grades 7–8 take three elective courses from an extensive list (math, anatomy and nutrition, chess, computers, Hollywood history, science, music and poetry, English, studio art, writing, web design, and digital movie making).

The Magis Middle School Enrichment Program has a summer academy for students entering grades 7–8. There are limited spaces available for students entering grade 8.

Sports and Theater Camps at SI are open to non-SI students. Their Introduction to Sports Camp is a week-long program that teaches the fundamentals of different sports. The Training for the High School Athlete camp is a five-week intensive program of strength and conditioning for different sports.

They have specialized camps throughout the summer for older kids. The sports are baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, training for the high school athlete, and volleyball.

Each camp ends with a performance for parents and families.
Please be seated in Bannan Theatre by 7 pm.

2012 Studio Art Camp Sessions:
Dates:June 18–June 22 (Color, Texture, Line & Form), June 25–June 29 (Sculpture & 3D Studies)
Ages: entering grades 5–9
Days/Times: Mondays through Fridays, 1pm–4pm
Cost: $245; includes material fees and a camp t-shirt
May be combined with academic programs. Each camp will end on the Friday with an Art Show for parents and families from 3pm–4pm. Please come to the Art Studio - Room 108.

2012 Music Arts Camp Sessions:
Dates: June 5–June 29
Ages: grades 4–9
Days/Times: Mondays through Fridays, 1pm–4pm
Cost: $245; includes material fees and a camp t-shirt

2012 Competitive Speech Performance Camp Sessions:
Dates: July 9–July 13
Ages: entering grades 7–9
Days/Times: Mondays through Fridays, 1pm–4pm
Cost: $245; includes material fees and a camp t-shirt
May be combined with academic programs. Camp ends on Friday afternoon with speech performances for parents and families from 3:30pm–5pm. Please be seated in the Library or Choral Room as assigned by 3:30pm.

2012 CPR/First Aid & Intro to Sports Medicine Workshop

2012 Animation Camp

2012 Fall and Winter Basketball Camps:
- December 26–December 28; grades 3–8; 9am–noon; $105 per person for all 3 sessions, or $40 for each individual session
- October 14, 21, 28, November 4, 11; grades 3–8; 6pm–8pm; $35 per session

Getting There

The school is located at the corner of 37th Avenue and Quintara, one block west of Sunset Boulevard. Street parking is easier on weekends when school is out.
